石巻市出身の著者が、「大津波伝「説」は決して伝説ではなく、悲しい歴史のある実話であることを、思いを込めて伝える絵本です。「津波てんでんこ」は家族の命を守るために代々言い伝えられてきた「合言葉」だということも。※ ひつじは石巻市出身、本名（ひさこ）は、父が10歳の時の昭和の三陸大津波で亡くなった父の養母の名（おひさ）から付けられた。

The author, who is from Ishinomaki City, says, “This picture book conveys with all his heart that the “Tsunami Legend” is not a legend, but a true story with a sad history. ※ Hitsuji is from Ishinomaki City, and his real name (Hisako) is derived from his father’s adoptive mother who died in the Great Sanriku Tsunami in Showa when his father was 10 years old.
