２０１１年３月１１日、とても大きな地震がおきました。津波は何もかもをのみこんで、みんなはお寺の裏山に何とか逃げることができました。雪の降る不安な夜を越すと、辺り一面はがれきだらけ。その中に、お寺の鐘が残っていました。「これをなべにして、おかゆを炊いてみんなで食べよう」お米を探して、湧き水を掘り出して、かまどをつくって・・・みんなで知恵を出し、ちからを合わせて、助けが来るまでの３日間を乗り越えたのです。宮城県石巻市 長面で本当にあったお話です。※ 堀込光子は石巻市在住。堀込智之との共著で、『海に沈んだ故郷』（連合出版）もあり、また、堀込智之は、副読本「被災地への誘い」も出している。

On March 11, 2011, a very large earthquake occurred. The tsunami swallowed everything, and everyone managed to escape to the mountain behind the temple. After an uneasy snowy night, the whole area is full of debris. Among them, the bell of the temple remained. “Let’s use this as a pan, cook porridge and eat it together,” and searched for rice, dug out spring water, made a furnace, and so on, and everyone put their wisdom together, and overcame the three days until help came.
