「つなみがすべてをのみこんでいったのです。けれども、どうしようもありませんでした」。2011年3月11日(金)に起こった東日本大震災。家も車も大津波に流されていく中、保育園に残したわが子を探しに出たみなこ先生は、てんとう虫のミドとマリに再会します…。『子どもたちはどこに―がれきの中のスイカ』の続編。

前出の『子どもたちはどこにーがれきの中のスイカー』 とテーマも作者も同じです。続編かと思ったら、共通の題材もありますが、筋立ては少しちがいます。こちらは幼稚園の先生が園児を守りつつも、保育園の自分の子の心配をする設定です。 この間の先生の葛藤や家族への愛に、リアリティがあます。著者は京都女子大名誉教授で、被災地でボランティア活動に取り組んできた体験を二冊の絵本にしました。 売上の一部は被災地に寄付されます。

The theme and author are the same as the aforementioned “Where Are the Children: Watermelon in the Rubble”. If you think it’s a sequel, there are some common themes, but the plot is a little different. In this setting, the kindergarten teacher protects the child but worries about his own child in the nursery school. The teacher’s struggles and love for his family during this time are realistic.
The author is a professor emeritus at Kyoto Women’s University, and has written two picture books about her experience of volunteering in the disaster-stricken area. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the affected areas.
