2011年3月11日―あの日の夜空はくやしいくらいきれいだった…。被災地・宮城県の子どもたちと、絵本作家・荒井良二が、ともに絵を描いた。その胸にあったのは「あの日」のこと。そして「これから」のこと。子どもたちの歌う「明けない夜はないから」の詞(ことば)が未来を照らす。

NHK朝ドラ『純と愛』オープニングイラストを手がける人気絵本作家 荒井良二さんと被災地の子どもたちが絵本を発刊。タイトル『明けない夜はないから』は、「こどもスマイルミュージカル」のテーマ曲でした。このミュージカルは、被災地の子どもたちが主人公となって舞台に上がるというもので、宮城県名取市など3ケ所で開催し、被災地の子どもたちと大人たちを元気づけ話題となりました。そこで、この子どもたちの想いを「絵本」というというメディアを使って、全国のより多くの人に伝えていこうと、絵本化を決定。
2012年の8月には、絵本作家の荒井良二さんと、被災地の子どもたちで絵本を作っていこうと、ワークショップを合計3回開催し、そこで生まれた作品を荒井良二さんと松田素子さんが編集し、一冊の絵本ができました。

In August 2012, a total of three workshops were held with Ryoji Arai, a picture book author, to create a picture book with children in the affected areas.
The works created in the workshops were edited by Ryoji Arai and Motoko Matsuda, and a picture book was created.
